Mission

Blackmer is focused on delivering exceptional value to customers by helping them optimize productivity and profitability, as well as improve safety and environmental protection.

Blackmer’s vision is to be the world’s leading engineered solutions provider for the transferring of gases and fluids and gases.

Company History

Prior to the turn of the 20th century, rotary pumps were generally “gear pumps” that consisted primarily of two meshing gears. They trapped the liquid between the gear teeth and the pump housing created small sealing cavities that transported fluid as it rotated, forcing the liquid out the other side.

In 1899, R.M. Blackmer came up with a vane-type pump design that was a significant departure from the old pump style. The flow rate of a gear-based pump would drop steadily as the gear teeth wear away, whereas the loss you’ll get from a vane-type pump is pretty much negligible. As the vanes wear away at the tips, they naturally move further out of the rotor slots. This enables them to self adjust and maintain the original flow rate.

Blackmer’s timing was excellent as the advent of the automobile increased demand for gasoline and oil. As the petroleum industry grew, so did Blackmer’s young firm. Over the years, this original vane-type pump design has branched out into a family of hundreds of different pump models.

Smart Energy Flow Solutions

Blackmer’s mission is to enable pump users to gain a competitive business advantage thanks to their energy-saving positive displacement sliding vane pump designs.

To accomplish this global mission, Blackmer gives engineering consultants, distributors, OEMs and other end-users with helpful tools and knowledge. This is achieved through energy-saving value and performance-enhancing advantages that come with positive displacement sliding vane pumps for various manufacturing operations.

With industrial energy consumption expected to rise by 42% over the next 24 years across the world, Blackmer responded by offering its Smart Energy Flow Solutions initiative to help companies:

  • Control energy expenses by reducing power consumption while at the same time not compromising output performance
  • Reducing vulnerability to energy price volatility
  • Increase operational reliability by utilizing energy-efficient technologies which support improved mechanical efficiency
  • Driving productivity improvements that increase financial performance

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Blackmer manufactures and distributes a large variety of pumps and compressors to suit the needs of various industrial markets. They are committed to offering the highest quality and innovative product solutions.

Sliding Vane Pumps

These pumps have a number of vanes that are free to slide into or out of slots within the pump rotor. That way, when the pump driver turns the rotor, push rods, centrifugal force, and/or pressurized fluid enables the vanes to move outward Then, they can bear against the inner bore of the pump casing and form pumping chambers.

While the rotor is revolving, liquid flows into the area located between the vanes (pumping cambers) once they pass the suction port. This fluid is then transported around the pump casing until the discharge port is ultimately reached. Then, the fluid is finally squeezed out into the discharge piping.

Sliding Vane Hand Pumps

Blackmer sliding vane hand pumps provide a safe, convenient method of transferring or dispensing non-corrosive liquids from tanks, drums, vats or barrels. They are designed for easy and efficient operation in order to handle a wider range of liquids for various construction, industrial and agricultural applications.

By utilizing the same design principles as Blackmer’s power pumps, these positive-displacement, sliding-vane, self-priming pumps are able to give you a steady, non-pulsating flow at speeds that are easy turning. The sliding vanes self-compensate for wear. This helps maintain a high-suction lift. In addition, these components are easily replaced at an affordable price after being used for years.

System One Centrifugal Pumps

The simplest type of centrifugal pump is the single stage machine that consists of a rotating element, which is known as an impeller, along with a casing. Liquid goes into the center of the impeller, where it is then set into rotation by the impeller vanes. Due to the centrifugal force, the liquid is thrown from the outer edges of the impeller with extreme velocity and pressure. The casing, which closely envelops the impeller, has a volute-shaped passage of increasing area. This collects the liquid that has left the impeller and converts a percentage of its velocity energy into additional pressure energy. The casing passage ultimately leads to the discharge nozzle of the pump. It is at this point where it is forced into the discharge piping.

Regenerative Turbine Pumps

Blackmer’s Ebsray Series of regenerative turbine pumps is offered to the American market for Autogas and LPG applications.

The Esbray brand is known as a global leader for Autogas-handling applications. They represent decades of reliable performance around the world, in thousands of installations. Ebsray products are renowned for reliability, efficiency and performance.

Ebsray Series regenerative turbine pumps are designed to exacting specifications and built with precision to handle high-pressure transfer in Autogas applications. What has made these pumps so successful is the innovative impeller design. The impeller optimizes hydraulic performance and results in high-differential pressures—even when running at low flow rates. This is of critical importance for most Autogas applications. Ebsray pumps also run smoothly and quietly and offer a long pump life.

Reciprocating Gas Compressors

The single stage, reciprocating gas compressors create a low-pressure area in the pumping chamber when the piston moves from the highest point of the stroke down to the lowest point. The gaseous product (when it’s at a higher pressure in the tank) then moves into the pumping chamber. The gas volume is later displaced when the piston moves to the top of the stroke. Blackmer compressors are quipped with high-efficiency valves, self-adjusting piston rod seals, ductile iron pistons and other robust features. These compressors are designed to give you maximum performance and reliability, even when under the most severe service conditions. They are also quite effective as a critical component in the design of oil and gas vapor recovery units (VRUs).

S Series Screw Pumps

Blackmer’s S Series Screw Pumps are double-ended, self-priming, positive-displacement pumps that can be purchased with or without external timing gears and bearings. The twin and triple screw designs provide complete axial balancing of the rotating screws and with the timing technologies eliminate metal-to-metal contact within the pump. Blackmer’s screw technology is perfectly crafted so that it rotates within a cylindrical cavity. This allows materials and fluids to be transferred more efficiently along the screw’s spindle.

Twin Screw Pumps

S Series Twin Screw Pumps with non-timing (NTG) gear transmission are designed with a single-suction feature. A balanced piston compensates for the axial pressure on the hydraulic components. Between the screw profiles and casing bore, metal contact does exist. The S Series (NTG) Twin Screw Pumps transfer lubricating fluids with higher viscosities and at medium or high temperatures. Such fluids include bitumen and residual oil.

S Series Twin Screw Pumps (WTG) are double-suction, self-priming twin screw pumps that feature external bearings and timing gear transmission. They are ideally designed for the delivery of fluids that are free of solid substances and/or contain minimal abrasiveness.

Triple Screw Pumps

S Series Triple Screw Pumps are positive-displacement rotary pumps meant for handling clear, lubricating liquids that do not have any solid content. They are ideal for some of most demanding applications. By providing a smooth constant flow across a wide range of viscosities, pressures and temperatures, these pumps are very efficient, compact, low-noise, self-priming and environmentally friendly.

Engineered Products

An engineered product from Blackmer is equipment that is specifically designed for a particular application. These products can take many different forms. However, they most commonly fall into two categories:

  • Equipment configurations that are not part of the Blackmer standard product line. Examples might include diesel engine drives or special base unit assemblies that need to be specially design to meet the engineering specifications of the user.
  • Blackmer products that can be modified to meet the requirements of an application where the standard product may not fit the bill. Modifications can be made in order to extend the life of the product and/or allow the product to operate beyond its standard product operational range.

Engineered Package Solutions

As a global specialist and systems integrator in pump and compressor packages, Blackmer engineers are able to recommend the most suitable pump or compressor for your needs. They can also create customized solutions. They are happy to provide you with process flow diagrams, skid drawing and piping diagrams.
