2.6 Billion Bay Area Residents Receive Drinking Water Thanks to Seepex

Golden Gate, San Francisco, California, USA.
San Francisco is one of the most populated cities in North America. The city’s municipal system serves billions of residents everyday. The main source of water for the city is from the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. It is located just east of the city, and 80% of the city’s water supply comes from it. That means that this reservoir alone provides water for about 2.6 billion Bay Area residents. Any breakdown or issue with the pumps that bring the water from the reservoir to the city can cause catastrophic effects. Literally, billions of people will be affected. So, when the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) realized that the Tesla Portal Disinfection Station was beginning to deteriorate, they knew they needed to be proactive about solving the issue before it stopped functioning altogether. After receiving referrals from other companies in the area and researching the best company for the job, they landed confidently on Seepex.

Seepex came highly recommended and is a trusted and respected name in industrial pumps around the world. The current system used by the SFPUC utilized a 12.5% sodium hypochlorite solution (NaOCl) to clean the water that would be distributed to Bay Area residents. While this compound is better for the environment and humans than other solutions, it was particularly corrosive to the water treatment system used in San Francisco. In order to replace the pumps and other components needed to keep the integrity of the system, a large sum of money would be needed, in addition to funds that would be needed for frequent maintenance. This is why SFPUC contacted Seepex. Seepex is known for its individualized solutions, which meant no matter what the issue was, Seepex would be able to provide a logical, long-lasting, and efficient system for the SFPUC.

And deliver on that promise is exactly what Seepex did. The brilliant engineers were able to create a custom pump for trial for the SFPUC that would allow them to continue using NaOCl but would not cause the corrosion previously seen while simultaneously preventing gas bubbles from forming in the system. Once installed, the SFPUC was so happy with the pump that they ordered an additional 24 pumps to complete their application. Seepex pumps are designed to be tough, accurate, long-lasting, and low maintenance – each pump purchased by the SFPUC provided all of these qualities and more.
