Shawn Whalen recently celebrated his twentieth anniversary with Cortech DXP and was honored with a promotion he’d been hoping for: Senior Sales Engineer. Shawn has been one of Cortech’s top salespeople since joining the company two decades ago. Shawn services large customer accounts throughout California and Washington, with a special focus on the oil and gas industries.
As Senior Sales Engineer, Shawn also finds himself acting as a mentor to other sales engineers on the Cortech DXP team. Everyone at Cortech’s Anaheim headquarters knows they can turn to Shawn for advice and guidance because he’s seen and done it all.
The Perfect Fit
Shawn was first introduced to Cortech while still a student at Cal Poly Pomona. He was earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and took a summer internship with Cortech between his junior and senior years. Shawn continued to work part-time as an application engineer until he finished school, and quickly proved himself with his natural sales skills and phenomenal work ethic. Following graduation, Cortech was quick to offer him a full-time position. He’s been an integral part of our team ever since.
No Two Days Are the Same
With a depth of mechanical engineering knowledge and proven people skills, Shawn has been able to build strong and lasting relationships with his clients and coworkers. He loves interacting with people and working at different locations. Whether he’s working from his home in South Orange County, from the office, or out in the field, Shawn loves the fact that every day is a little different. “One day I might be in the LA Basin. The next week I might be up in Washington,” he said. “No two days are ever quite the same.”
From the start, Shawn has fit perfectly with the service ideals that define Cortech. When DXP acquired Cortech, Shawn found it to be a smooth transition because the companies shared similar values.
“We always take care of our customers first,” Shawn said. “We represent such a wide variety of products and manufacturers, so we aren’t just going to push one type of pump or brand. We’re going to listen to our customers’ needs and help them find the best equipment for their specific application.”
Shawn has enjoyed introducing DXP’s PumpWorks line of specialty pumps and accessories to the West Coast oil and gas market—especially the PumpWorks 610 system. “It’s not right for every job, but it sure has made a positive impact for many of the refineries I’ve worked with throughout California and Washington,” he said.
Always Staying Active
Outside of work, Shawn enjoys staying active with his wife and two children. He grew up in Brea and now calls Rancho Santa Margarita home. He loves being outdoors, whether it’s mountain biking, playing softball, snowboarding, or paddleboarding. Shawn and his family also enjoy taking his Jeep Wrangler offroad to find special camping and mountain biking spots.
Shawn Whalen is a key part of the Cortech DXP team and we’re excited and honored to celebrate his 20 years with the company. Please join us in congratulating Shawn on this momentous achievement!
